Hi from a former student! I don’t know how I found your substack but I’m so glad I did. I’ve been catching up on your other posts this month and looking forward to May’s.
I’ve also lately been hunting up old fairytales and childhood books with illustrations I like (Marguerite Henry books illustrated by Wesley Dennis for example) which has been grounding.
I’m well! Living and working in Houston Texas. Steph (now Dr. Steph) and I are still very close- she lives in Austin! We remember the cicada summer and your free verse masters class very fondly. The reading, some of the conversations, the egg poem by Gwendolyn Brooks in our mailboxes. It was a magical and mysterious time! Lately I’ve been working on more creative projects in my free time… I’m excited to see where it goes! And I’m excited to keep reading Cake and Poetry.

Thank you for these posts.
Hi! How are you? Good to hear from you! And I love childhood books! Both the ones that I remember and the ones that I discover now.
